Happy Buy Nothing Day!
11.25.05 (1:12 pm)   [edit]
Happy Buy Nothing Day, everybody!!

That's right, kids! Today has been renamed from "Black Friday" to "Buy Nothing Day" in honor of the gross consumerism that ensues simply because stores culturally say, "On your marks, get set go!" And dumbshits actually do it...at 5, and 6 in the morning they do it!

Buy Nothing Day, started by Ad Busters an organization promoting awareness of America's own cycle of consumerism, whose commercials no station will air, especially when they compare America to a big fat pig consuming 90% of the world's resources, and creating more waste than any of them, makes a lot of sense. 1. It's only one day out of the year. Why would one even want to run out shopping on the busiest day of the year? 2. Does anyone (besides my brother) really have any clue about what they want for Christmas yet? I sure as hell don't. 3. It's a lot of people who work in non-retail non-food service, non-entertainment jobs don't have the day off. Isn't it better to spend time with your family/loved ones  (I laugh because people don't think this way).

This gets back to earlier questions I've raised about, why, if stores are decorated before Halloween, do they pretend that they only want us to start thinking about Christmas today?

Well, both I, and my loved one have to work tonight. For some stupid reason, Macy's is A. Starting me off on Buy Nothing Day Black Friday. B. Only keeping me there for 3 hours. And then they don't want me back until next Friday, for a grand total of 4 hours!

So if you haven't already shopped on this stupid day invented by stores, don't. Go tomorrow...go the next day...go Christmas Eve...
